Codex Gigas, sometimes called the Devil’s Bible, is an unusually large thirteenth-century manuscript produced in Bohemia. It is now preserved by the National Library of Sweden.
The manuscript contains biblical texts and other works. Its famous illustration of the devil contributed to a later body of legends about its creation, but those legends should not be confused with evidence about how it was made.
The National Library of Sweden provides historical context and digital access to the manuscript.
