The Voynich Manuscript is an illustrated codex preserved at Yale University’s Beinecke Rare Book & Manuscript Library as MS 408. Its pages contain an unfamiliar writing system alongside botanical, astronomical, and other enigmatic imagery.

The parchment has been radiocarbon dated to the early fifteenth century. The date of the parchment does not, by itself, establish when every part of the manuscript was written.

Many proposed decipherments exist, but no interpretation has achieved broad scholarly acceptance. The manuscript is best approached through the original images and the library’s catalogue rather than sensational claims of a solved mystery.
